Mother teresa began her work for children in Kolkata in 1948. In some parts of the city, the people were very poor and they had no schools for their children. Mother teraesa gathered together some children and taught the alphabet to them. It was not easy because they had no pens and no notenooks.

Over the next few years, some sisters joined Mother Teresa. Many of them were her former students. Mother Teresa ans these sisters worked very hard. They saved the lives of many homeless children. They cared for sick people and old people too. She said, “always have a cheerful simle. Don’t only give your care, but give your heart as well.”

In 1950, Mother Teresa started the missionaries of charity. Its motto is “go to the poor with joy say yes to peace.”In 1979, she received the nobel peace prize. She died in 1997, but even now the missionaries are working all over the world. They are working in japan too. For example, they have a house for homeless children in Tokyo.
On December 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks said “No” to a bus driver when he ordered that she give up her seat for white people.
